TTD fires two staff members for eating meat on the sacred Alipiri pathway. Video sparks outrage, police case filed.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams terminated outsourced sanitation workers Rama Swamy and Sarasamma after devotees recorded them consuming non-vegetarian food on the Alipiri pedestrian route to Tirumala. The viral video drew widespread criticism as meat consumption is strictly prohibited within Tirumala limits and along the sacred trekking pathways under TTD regulations. Officials lodged a formal complaint at Tirumala II Town Police Station under Section 114 of the Andhra Pradesh Charitable and Endowments Act.
The health department employees violated core sanctity rules governing the holy hill shrine. TTD vigilance and security departments conducted preliminary inquiries before swift termination. This incident follows similar violations in January when Tamil Nadu devotees were caught eating egg biryani near Rambagicha bus stand, and March incidents involving unauthorized hawkers smuggling alcohol and ganja through Alipiri checkpoint. TTD has since intensified checks and reinforced security operations at entry points.
The temple administration reiterated that disciplinary action will be taken against anyone violating Tirumala’s spiritual atmosphere. Non-vegetarian food, alcohol, and tobacco remain banned throughout temple precincts and trekking routes. This controversy emerged shortly after the ghee adulteration scandal, creating compounded concerns about maintaining sacred standards at one of Hinduism’s holiest sites. Devotees demand accountability and preservation of centuries-old purity protocols.
