IIT Roorkee conducts a structural audit of the Banke Bihari Temple. Supreme Court committee ensures safety and crowd management improvements.

An Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee team began a detailed structural audit of the historic Shri Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan on Wednesday to assess its stability, safety, and crowd management capabilities. District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh confirmed the inspection will evaluate structural fitness, identify areas requiring improvement, and ensure devotee safety and comfort. The audit follows a September 11 recommendation by the Supreme Court-constituted High-Powered Committee headed by retired Justice Ashok Kumar of Allahabad High Court.

Committee member Dinesh Goswami stated discussions were held with the IIT team leader, who reviewed previous survey reports, including one conducted by IIT Delhi during the 2021 COVID pandemic. Technicians equipped with advanced instruments are conducting the detailed survey. The committee will review findings on November 19 and implement recommendations for railing installation and crowd control measures. The historic temple faces overwhelming crowds, creating safety concerns that the committee is addressing through systematic improvements.

The Supreme Court committee has also ordered a VIP darshan ban, a special audit of temple assets covering 2013-2016, the opening of a 54-year sealed basement room containing jewellery and documents, and the replacement of private security with retired soldiers. These measures aim to restore transparency and accountability in temple management after years of disputes and defunct administration.
