Fresh threat letters from the LeT proxy United Liberation Council (ULC) have warned Kashmiri Pandit employees recruited under the Prime Minister’s Rehabilitation Package to resign from their jobs or face fatal consequences, even as their personal details, including phone numbers, home addresses and vehicle registration numbers, were leaked online.
The latest threat, dated September 10, carries photographs of Kashmiri Pandit employees who participated in a protest at Press Colony in Srinagar demanding priority allocation of government-built transit accommodation. In the letter, the ULC has described the construction of transit accommodation for Kashmiri Pandit employees as an “Israeli settlement plan” and threatened to target members of the community.
This is the sixth such threat letter in over a month, with security agencies suspecting ULC is a front for Lashkar-e-Taiba. Earlier threats had allegedly carried personal details of Kashmiri Pandit employees, raising concerns about possible leaks or unauthorised access to government records.
The threats have renewed demands for a security audit, an FIR and stronger safeguards for the nearly 7,000 Pandit employees living in transit colonies and rented accommodation across Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmiri Pandit organisations have maintained that they will not be intimidated by such threats.
