A police complaint has been filed against Independent MP from Purnia, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, following a protest demonstration inside the Parliament complex over the alleged Ram Mandir donation embezzlement case.
The complaint, lodged by petitioner Surya Maithil at Jahangirpuri Police Station in Delhi, accuses Yadav of hurting religious sentiments during the protest. Maithil alleged that Yadav insulted religious symbols, including placing a picture of Lord Ram Lalla Virajman under his feet during a skit staged outside Parliament. The demonstration was supported by several leaders of the Opposition’s INDIA bloc, including Rahul Gandhi, Dimple Yadav, and Awadhesh Prasad.
During the protest, Pappu Yadav appeared dressed in saffron robes, portraying a temple priest collecting offerings from devotees. As part of the skit, Opposition MPs played the role of devotees placing donations into a collection box. At the same time, Yadav slipped money into his pockets to symbolise the alleged theft at the Ram Temple. The performance drew sharp reactions from the BJP and the wider saffron ecosystem, with Union Minister Giriraj Singh saying the protest defamed Sanatan.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat has taken a strict view of protest methods in the Parliament House complex, making it clear that costume-based protests or dramatic demonstrations will not be allowed on the premises. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has expressed displeasure over the incident, and preparations are underway to implement existing guidelines strictly.
