The Vishva Hindu Parishad has called for an FIR and a formal police investigation into the alleged misappropriation of donations made to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
VHP International president Alok Kumar said media reports on the SIT’s preliminary findings suggest there are enough grounds to register an FIR, and that no further fact-finding is needed before police action begins. He urged that the case be investigated quickly, chargesheeted, and tried in a fast-track court.
The demand came after a Special Investigation Team submitted a preliminary report to the Uttar Pradesh government. While the report has not been made public, people familiar with its contents told the press that it points to lapses, weak supervision, and negligence in handling and counting donated cash and valuables.
Opposition leaders and a whistleblower have alleged that cash and jewellery offerings made by devotees were swindled by staffers under the trust’s watch. The Ram temple trust had itself requested the setting up of the probe.
The VHP said devotees would not be satisfied until those found guilty are jailed and maximum punishment is given.
VHP calls for FIR in Ram Temple embezzlement case, saying the SIT report shows enough grounds for police action over alleged misuse of devotees’ offerings.
