Gold, silver, and cash stolen from Amman temple near Arakkonam. Burglars broke into the temple at Kilvenbakkam village, decamping with 12 sovereigns of gold jewellery, silver objects, and cash from the hundi. Temple priests and residents discovered the theft at 6 am on Saturday when they found the door lock and hundi lock broken. The deity’s gold ornaments were missing.
This is the second theft in the same village. Recently, burglars struck Draupadi Amman temple in the same area. Last month, gold jewellery from Murugan temple in neighbouring Sampathurayanpet village also went missing. The village had just concluded its annual temple festival, attended by hundreds of devotees from neighbouring areas.
Nemili police have registered a case based on the temple authorities’ complaint. Special teams have been formed to nab the culprits. CCTV footage from the area is being analyzed. But the pattern is clear. Hindu temples are being targeted repeatedly with impunity.
These are not isolated crimes. They are systematic attacks on sacred spaces where Hindus worship. When temples are looted and deities are stripped of their ornaments, it is not just theft. It is desecration. Temple security must become a priority. Every theft is an assault on Hindu faith.
