Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath offered prayers at the historic Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple in Mathura on Friday, September 4, 2026, participating in the Janmashtami celebrations and greeting devotees by showering flower petals.
Addressing the occasion in Mathura, Adityanath underscored the timeless significance of Lord Krishna’s teachings, asserting that teachings from millennia ago continue to guide society. The Chief Minister remarked that despite numerous historical invasions and attempts to suppress indigenous faiths, Sanatan Dharma has endured and remained unbroken.
On Friday morning, the CM performed Gopujan (cow worship) within the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi premises, followed by darshan and prayers at the feet of Leeladhari Bhagwan. The temple complex was decorated with colourful lights and flowers, with thousands of devotees gathering for Mangala Aarti and special Janmashtami rituals.
Ahead of Janmashtami, on Thursday, September 3, Yogi Adityanath inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 229 development projects worth ₹1,051 crore in Mathura, including the Swami Shri Haridas Auditorium at the Gita Research Institute and Rasleela Academy in Vrindavan. The projects included 62 inaugurations worth over ₹540 crore and 167 foundation stones costing more than ₹437 crore. Additionally, over ₹72 crore was transferred to beneficiaries under the housing scheme.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the ‘Kanha Bhakti Stambh’ in Mathura as part of the Janmashtami festivities, marking the beginning of major celebrations in the Braj region.
