Over 20 obscene photos allegedly showing Jain monk Sagarchandra Sagar with two Jain sadhvis have been circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups, triggering outrage and legal action within the Jain community.

A group of 35-40 women protested at the Surat Police Commissioner’s office, demanding justice, shouting “We Want Justice.” Nikitaben stated, “Jain sadhvis are considered respectable persons for us. They committed misconduct and came to Surat. They should not be allowed to set foot in Surat. How can they install Upashraya? They cannot even touch our Lord.”

The viral visuals include mobile camera photographs and video call screenshots. Jain community leaders identify Sagarchandra Sagar in compromising situations, with two women also identified as associated with the Jain sadhvi community.

On January 31, 2025, Jagatbhai Parikh received photos via WhatsApp. He engaged private forensic experts from the Indian Forensic Investigation Laboratory. On April 2, 2025, the FSL report confirmed images are genuine and not tampered with.

Jagatbhai tried to register an FIR at Paldi Police Station in Ahmedabad on April 10, 2025, but the police declined, advising a court approach. On April 23, 2025, the Ahmedabad Magistrate Court issued notices to Sagarchandra Sagar and two sadhvis as respondents.

Kalpesh Singhvi filed a police complaint in Jodhpur naming 13 accused, including Sagarchandra Sagar, two sadhvis, and 10 others from Gujarat (7), Madhya Pradesh (3), Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Haryana.

Singhvi alleges he received threats, including a ₹5 crore bribe offer via WhatsApp from a person named Maithil. He reported threats in the names of the Gujarat Home Minister and the Maharashtra Chief Minister, demanding an SIT probe.

Police have recorded the complainant’s statement, but no arrests have been made yet. ACP stated the incident did not originate in Jodhpur, but an arrest could be made if required.

Jain leaders demand Nardev Sagar revoke Sagarchandra Sagar’s diksha and have him wear worldly clothes.

This scandal threatens Jain community’s sacred vows of celibacy and non-violence.
