Thiruparankundram Murugan Temple Car Festival Thrills Thousands
Chants of devotion echo as Lord Murugan’s chariot rolls through ancient streets. Devotees pull with fervor at Thiruparankundram.
Thousands gathered at Thiruparankundram Murugan Temple for the grand temple car procession during the annual Panguni Uthiram festival. Lord Subramanya Swamy and Goddess Deivanai rode in majestic glory as crowds chanted from dawn.
The procession marked Panguni Uthiram, celebrating Lord Murugan’s celestial wedding to Goddess Valli. Devotees thronged early, offering sacrifices to ward off evil spirits. “Ranga Ranga” chants filled the air as the chariot traversed sacred paths.
Panguni Uthiram falls on the full moon of the Tamil month Panguni, between March 14 and April 13. This Tamil Hindu festival honors Murugan, revered in Sanatana Dharma as Kartikeya, son of Shiva and Parvati. It coincides with divine weddings like Shiva-Parvati and Ram-Sita, closing the Tamil solar year. Thiruparankundram Temple, one of Murugan’s six sacred abodes, pulses with Tamil Hindu heritage.
Such festivals strengthen Tamil Hindu identity, drawing global devotees to witness living traditions. They preserve rituals that bind communities in devotion.
