Controversy erupts over a wedding held at the 200-year-old Gopal Mandir in Indore, leading authorities to launch a probe. The temple, a historical gem built in 1832 by Rajmata Krishna Bai Holkar, was recently renovated under the Centre’s Smart City project.

The wedding ceremony took place at the temple on Sunday, with the premises decorated for the occasion and Vedic marriage rituals performed. Eyewitnesses also reported a feast for guests, but concerns have been raised by locals. Some claim the event caused inconvenience to devotees and disrupted traffic around the temple, which is part of Indore’s rich heritage.

Photographs of the event, along with a receipt showing a payment of Rs 25,551 for the wedding, have surfaced on social media, sparking questions about how such an event was permitted at a historical temple.

Indore Smart City Development Limited’s CEO, Divyank Singh, confirmed that the Gopal Mandir, a major center of charitable activities during the Holkar reign, was renovated at a cost of Rs 13 crore. However, historian Zafar Ansari expressed concern, stating that holding weddings at such sites could damage the historical significance of the temple.

An Additional District Magistrate (ADM) has been appointed to investigate the matter.
