Berhampur: Tension gripped Katchbadi village in Gajapati district after a suspected human bone was found inside the Brahmanadei temple on Tuesday.
The temple priest, Narendra, reportedly discovered the bone and raised an alarm, prompting locals to gather at the shrine in anger and fear. A letter ‘N’ was allegedly found on the bone, leading some villagers to suspect sorcery.
Police quickly reached the scene and reassured the community that a thorough investigation would follow. The bone was seized and preliminary inquiries suggest it may belong to a toddler. Authorities suspect mischievous elements planted it to create unrest.
According to the Mohana police station IIC Basant Sethy, anti-social individuals had recently been reprimanded by the temple management for disturbing temple premises, including defecation. This incident could be a retaliatory act.
Police have launched a manhunt to identify and arrest those responsible.
The temple remains a sacred space for the community, and authorities are ensuring law and order while respecting the faith of devotees.
