The Odisha unit of VHP has submitted a detailed memorandum and draft law to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, urging that Hindu temples be released from government control and returned to Hindu society. They have warned that decades of state interference have weakened traditional temple administration, drained temple wealth, and reduced vibrant kshetras into bureaucratic departments.

The proposal traces this control back to British-era laws and points out how, even after Independence, high-revenue Hindu temples remained under state grip while their lands were encroached and their income diverted away from dharmic work. The draft seeks a complete restructuring through a State Dharmik Parishad, District Dharmik Parishads, independent temple management committees, a Temple Property Protection Commission to reclaim encroached lands, and a Hindu Sarvajanik Dan Kosh to channel donations from affluent temples, NRIs and corporates into preservation and cultural programmes.

VHP leaders say Odisha can become a model for the entire country if it adopts this framework. CM Mohan Majhi not only received the draft positively but also released VHP’s magazine “Hindu Shatabdi,” praising its role in spreading Sanatan values
