Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Trust faces outrage after sharing images of damaged murals, litter, and stains at the sacred site.
The Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust sparked massive controversy after sharing photographs showing exquisitely carved murals at the Ayodhya temple site surrounded by gutkha stains, disposable cups, litter, and damaged sculptures with missing fingers. The images, posted ahead of the November 25 flag hoisting ceremony, drew sharp criticism from devotees who questioned how a project representing divine devotion could be so carelessly maintained. Commentator Ajeet Bharti highlighted broken elements, disproportioned figures, and below-average craftsmanship, while writer Varun Grover noted growing indifference beneath grand religious displays.
The temple site, not yet opened to the public, already shows signs of neglect despite the Ayodhya Municipal Corporation banning gutkha, paan, cigarette sales and advertisements along the 14-kilometre Ram Path in May. Users tagged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, demanding action against the trust and the architects for ruining the temple’s aesthetic. Critics argue that while some blame ongoing construction, true devotion requires preserving sanctity through responsible maintenance, not just building grand structures.
For millions who waited centuries through struggle and sacrifice, these images represent betrayal of faith. The Ram Mandir symbolises civilizational restoration, yet careless handling of sacred art and cleanliness failures diminish that achievement. The trust must immediately address maintenance protocols and visitor conduct standards before the consecration ceremony.
