Minority leaders in Bangladesh staged a protest in Dhaka against the arrest of Haridas Chandra Tarani Das, alleging that the money laundering case against him was fabricated to stop the construction of a Lord Ram statue in Gaibandha.
The demonstration, led by the Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council, brought together Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian leaders outside the National Press Club. They accused the authorities of targeting religious minorities and demanded Das’s immediate release.
Protest leaders said the arrest was part of a wider pattern of pressure on minorities and raised concerns over attacks on temples and alleged discrimination. They warned that if action were not taken, a larger movement would follow.
According to reports, Bangladesh’s CID arrested Das on money laundering charges involving suspicious transactions. But minority leaders insist the case is being used to block the Ram statue project in Palashbari.
The protest reflects growing anxiety among minority communities in Bangladesh over safety, justice, and religious freedom.
