Devotees visiting the Kedarnath shrine have received a major new facility, as Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated a modern 50‑bed hospital in the holy town. Built at an altitude of 12,000 feet, this state‑of‑the‑art facility is specifically designed to handle high‑altitude illnesses and emergency medical situations, so that pilgrims as well as residents can get prompt and quality healthcare directly at the site.

The 50‑bed hospital is equipped to provide immediate treatment for oxygen deficiency, hypothermia, and other altitude‑related health problems, reducing the need to airlift or rush serious cases down to distant towns. The hospital has been set up with support from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and the Swami Vivekananda Health Mission Society, and is expected to function like a “life‑saving” facility for those undertaking the arduous pilgrimage to Kedarnath.

Chief Minister Dhami stressed that the state government is giving special priority to health services to keep the Kedarnath Yatra safe, smooth, and well‑managed. He reiterated the commitment to open a medical college in every district of Uttarakhand, so that medical education and healthcare reach can be strengthened across the state. The CM also highlighted that about 61 lakh Ayushman Bharat cards have already been issued, providing free treatment to millions of poor and vulnerable families under the national health scheme.

Given the difficult terrain and extreme weather faced by thousands of yearly pilgrims, this hospital acts as a critical lifeline, offering on‑site medical care for oxygen starvation, altitude sickness, cold‑related injuries, and other emergencies. In this way, the journey to Kedarnath is becoming not only spiritually significant for Hindu devotees, but also safer and more secure from a health‑care standpoint.
