Mahakal Temple in Ujjain has recorded its highest-ever annual income, reaching ₹142 crore in the 2025-26 financial year, with ₹78 crore coming from donations alone.
The temple committee said the donation collection is the highest in the past six years and is nearly ₹27 crore more than the previous financial year. Most of the donations came through the temple’s donation boxes, while other amounts came from cash counters, online payments, money orders, Annakshetra contributions, and anonymous offerings.
Temple officials said the temple also earned about ₹65 crore from laddu prasad sales, adding significantly to the total revenue. They attributed the rise in footfall and income to the growing number of devotees visiting after the inauguration of the Mahakal Lok corridor.
Since the corridor opened in October 2022, daily devotee numbers have reportedly risen from around 40,000 to 50,000 to nearly 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh. Officials said the temple follows a strict and transparent donation process, with 95 donation boxes opened weekly under security and CCTV monitoring.
At the same time, the temple’s operational costs have also risen sharply. Monthly expenses have crossed ₹5 crore, compared to about ₹2.5 crore before the expansion, due to higher spending on staff, security, sanitation, maintenance, festivals, dharamshalas, Annakshetra, research, gaushala, and cultural activities.
