Chitrakoot Police in Uttar Pradesh foiled a Christian religious conversion racket in Ghunuwa village on October 11, following a tip-off from Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal activists. Two accused were detained while a third managed to escape. Authorities also seized Christian religious literature.
Bajrang Dal district co-convenor Shivendra Pratap Singh revealed that nearly 40 percent of poor Hindus in the area have already converted due to monetary inducements and coercion. Local villagers accused the accused of offering money, conducting prayer meetings, and using derogatory language against Hindu deities to influence poor families.
Police registered an FIR after activists filed a complaint detailing how Bharat Verma, Ramvishal, and Mahesh had been running conversion activities for over a year. Inspector Vinod Shukla confirmed that investigations are underway and a search has been launched for the third accused.
Shivendra Singh emphasized that stopping conversions requires collective effort from the entire Hindu community, not just VHP and Bajrang Dal. Local authorities have assured strict legal action once investigations are complete.
This case highlights the ongoing threat of forced conversions in vulnerable communities. Protecting the faith and rights of Hindus in Chitrakoot remains a priority for both activists and law enforcement.
