TTD Executive Engineer Subramanyam arrested in adulterated ghee scam involving Tirupati laddus. He previously served as General Manager of TTD Marketing. With his arrest, the total number of arrests in the case has risen to 10. Investigators subjected him to medical examinations at Ruia Hospital in Tirupati after taking him into custody.
The scandal came to light after TDP came to power and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu revealed the shocking lab report in 2024. A Special Investigative Team found that between 2019 and 2024, around 20 crore laddus were made using adulterated ghee. Out of 48.76 crore laddus produced during this period, nearly 40 percent contained palm oil, palm kernel oil, and other chemical additives instead of pure ghee. The Sri Venkateswara Temple prepares approximately 4 lakh laddus daily, requiring 12,000 to 13,000 kg of ghee.
During those years, the TTD Board paid nearly Rs 250 crore to several dairy suppliers, including Bhole Baba Dairy, AR Dairy, Vaishnavi Dairy, and Malganga Dairies. TTD procured about 1.61 crore kg of ghee, out of which 68 lakh kg was identified as adulterated. Recently, SIT officers questioned former TTD chairman and YSRCP MP YV Subba Reddy. His former personal assistant, Chinna Appanna, has already been arrested.
This is not just corruption. This is sacrilege. When adulterated ghee is used in prasadam offered to Bhagwan Venkateswara, millions of devotees are betrayed. Faith was commercialized, devotion exploited. Accountability must be total. Every conspirator must face justice.
