RSS chief Hosabale calls ghar wapsi correction, not conversion. Admits reconverts face discrimination, temples deny entry.

RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale declared that ghar wapsi of converted Hindus constitutes correction rather than conversion, though it must be voluntary. Speaking in Bhubaneswar during the RSS centenary outreach, he welcomed even non-Hindu foreigners accepting Hinduism while strongly opposing forced conversion by any religion. Hosabale made candid admission that reconverts face serious social challenges, stating many Hindu communities show reservation accepting them and temples deny entry. He clarified RSS has no role in temple access as this is a religious matter decided by temple authorities and religious heads.

Hosabale lamented that conversion activities have increased across India including Odisha despite BJP governance at Center and most states. He specifically noted conversions intensified in Odisha after VHP leader Laxmananda Saraswati’s 2008 murder, adding that the fight he spearheaded has died down with few Sadhus showing aggressiveness to stop conversions. When asked about national anti-conversion law long demanded by RSS, he parried the question. The RSS has been running Dharma Jagran awakening programs and ghar wapsi initiatives, particularly in tribal areas and Punjab where Sikh conversions have increased.

This admission exposes fundamental contradiction in Hindutva reconversion programs. While RSS promotes ghar wapsi, traditional Hindu society refuses to accept reconverts, perpetuating the very caste-based exclusion that drove people away initially.
