Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the redeveloped 524-year-old Mata Tripura Sundari temple in Udaipur, Gomati district. This sacred temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, was built in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya and has remained a center of devotion for centuries.
The redevelopment has been carried out under the Union Tourism Ministry’s PRASHAD scheme at a cost of over ₹52 crore, with the Tripura government contributing an additional ₹7 crore. The temple complex now reflects both the spiritual grandeur and the cultural heritage of Tripura, making it one of the most iconic Shakti Peethas in eastern India, alongside Kalighat in Kolkata and Kamakhya in Guwahati.
PM Modi will take part in a 12-kilometre roadshow from Palatana helipad to the temple, inaugurate the redeveloped complex, and offer prayers to Mata Tripura Sundari. This is his second visit to the temple since becoming Prime Minister, the first being in April 2019.
Chief Minister Manik Saha has called the temple’s new form an “enchanting supernatural view of Mother’s abode,” and the people of Tripura are waiting with devotion for the grand inauguration.
