A new silver door weighing 25 kilograms has been installed at the entrance to the garbhagriha of Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple in Ujjain. The door was donated by Kolkata based devotee Nibha Prakash and was ceremonially installed during the evening aarti on Sunday, 14 December, following proper Vedic rituals and mantras.
The door has been crafted with intricate artistic work on two wooden panels covered with silver, featuring religious symbols including Nandi, Om, the trishul, and floral designs. The estimated cost of the door is around Rs 50 lakh, and it was prepared according to the exact measurements of the inner and outer garbhagriha sanctum space. The donation was made on the inspiration of temple priest Pandit Bhushan Vyas after Nibha Prakash visited the temple in late November.
The temple management committee formally welcomed and honoured the donor during the installation ceremony conducted by Assistant Administrator Ashish Falwadiya. The new door has enhanced the spiritual ambience and visual sanctity of Baba Mahakal’s garbhagriha, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas revered across Sanatana Dharma.
When devotion expresses itself in art, silver, and craft at the feet of Mahakal, it is not just a door being installed. It is shraddha taking permanent form in the temple that anchors the spiritual identity of Ujjain.
