A shocking incident unfolded at the Supreme Court on Monday. An advocate attempted to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice BR Gavai during proceedings. He reportedly shouted, “Sanatan Dharma ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan,” protesting the Court’s refusal to allow reconstruction of a damaged Lord Vishnu murti at Khajuraho. Some witnesses said he threw a roll of paper instead.
The Court had earlier dismissed the plea, terming it “publicity interest litigation.” The bench, led by CJI Gavai, emphasized that the matter fell under the Archaeological Survey of India’s jurisdiction. The Supreme Court highlighted that legal processes cannot replace devotion. “If you are a strong devotee of Lord Vishnu, then you pray and do some meditation,” the CJI said. He also pointed out that the temple houses one of Khajuraho’s largest Shiva lingas, inviting worship there.
CJI Gavai remained calm during the disruption, stating, “Don’t get distracted by all this. We are not distracted. These things do not affect me.” His words remind us that dharmic respect and patience are vital, even in the face of provocation.
This episode is a lesson for all Hindus. Our temples and murtis are sacred. True devotion comes from the heart, not protests. The Supreme Court upheld the rule of law while respecting our faith. Legal intervention has limits, but our dharmic practice is eternal.
For devotees, prayer, meditation, and reverence matter more than litigation. The Javari Temple, with its ancient Lord Vishnu murti and massive Shiva linga, continues to be a site of spiritual power. Let us honor it with devotion and respect.
