Devotee suffering exposes Devaswom Board neglect at sacred sites. Court slams poor sanitation, contaminated water across 409 shrines. Why fail basic bhakta care at Devi’s ancient doors?

Kerala High Court took suo motu action on Kodungallur Sree Kurumba Bhagavathi Temple complaints, condemning Cochin Devaswom Board’s apathy. Justices Raja Vijayaraghavan V and K.V. Jayakumar ordered comprehensive facilities for all temples under Section 73-A of the TC HRI Act.

The court mandates an audit of toilets, drinking water, and parking within 3 months. Inclusive complexes for men, women, transgenders, disabled required; bio-toilets during festivals. Monthly cleaning, green protocols enforced. An affidavit detailing the 409 temples’ status is demanded.

Kodungallur Bhagavathi Temple, Kerala’s fierce Bhadrakali powerhouse, draws lakhs for the Bharani festival, yet it offered filthy toilets (Rs 5 charge), contaminated coolers, and restricted darshan. The Court cited Supreme Court precedent protecting temple properties from mismanagement.

Lakhs endure indignity where shakti worship demands dignity. The board prioritizes corruption over pilgrim comfort during peak seasons.
