Five to six people, including winning candidates Swarupa Khomne and Monika Ghadge, sustained burn injuries when turmeric bhandara offered during a local body poll victory celebration caught fire near the steps of Jejuri’s Khanderaya temple. The incident occurred as party workers gathered to present the offerings at the feet of Lord Khanderaya after vote counting.

Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandip Gill stated that the fire ignited when some bhandara fell onto a lighted diya, sparking the blaze during the devotional act. Such accidents during enthusiastic temple offerings highlight the need for basic safety protocols even in moments of victory and bhakti.

Investigation continues into the circumstances, but the event underscores how quickly joy at a sacred site can turn to distress without vigilance. Devotion demands care as much as fervour at places like Jejuri.
