The GSB Seva Mandal at King’s Circle in Matunga, Mumbai, unveiled the first look of its iconic Lord Maha Ganapati murti, widely known as one of India’s richest Ganesh mandals.
The murti is adorned with more than 66 kg of gold, 335 kg of silver, and precious gemstones donated by sevadars and devotees over decades. The first look was unveiled during the ‘Virat Darshan’ ceremony at 8 pm on September 12.
The mandal is celebrating its 72nd Ganeshotsav, which will be held for five days from September 14 to 18 at Sukriteendra Nagar in King’s Circle. The 10-day Ganpati festival begins on September 14.
The GSB Seva Mandal has taken a massive insurance cover of Rs 703.27 crore for the upcoming Ganpati festival celebration, compared to Rs 474 crore last year. The Maha Ganpati murti is eco-friendly, the organisers said.
The mandal has been organising the Ganpati festival since 1955. Its celebrations include various poojas and sevas, with devotees visiting the pandal from across India and abroad.
