The Supreme Court will hear on July 13 petitions seeking a CBI probe into the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
The pleas want a court-monitored, time-bound investigation into the finances of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. One petition seeks a CBI probe and a CAG audit. Another asks for a CBI-led special investigation team. A third seeks a Supreme Court-monitored CBI investigation and a forensic audit of the Trust’s accounts.
The petitioners have also questioned the Uttar Pradesh government’s SIT inquiry, saying it was started without an FIR or regular criminal case. They argue that the allegations involve not only possible financial offences, but also the trust and confidence of millions of devotees and donors.
The matter has now moved into a crucial legal phase. The court hearing on July 13 will decide whether the probe stays with the current mechanism or shifts to a more powerful central investigation.
