Tamil Nadu HR&CE Minister S. Ramesh has urged the public to report irregularities, bribery, cash-for-jobs complaints, and other misdeeds in temples under the department’s control.
He asked people to send proof-based complaints to his official email and assured immediate action from his office. The appeal comes after he recently exposed an illegal transaction involving temple staff to speed up darshan for devotees at Tiruchendur.
The move has added momentum to the government’s push for clean and corruption-free temple administration. It also comes at a time when temple fund use is under close public scrutiny.
In June, the state cancelled administrative sanctions for 46 temple projects worth Rs 246 crore, including marriage halls and commercial complexes. It also cancelled a multi-level car parking project in Coonoor that was to be built using temple funds.
These decisions reflect a growing debate over how temple money should be used. Many devotees believe such funds must stay strictly tied to temple needs, rituals, and pilgrim welfare.
