The investigation into the alleged embezzlement and financial irregularities involving devotees’ donations at the Ram Temple has entered a crucial phase, with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) expected to arrive in Ayodhya soon to scrutinise documents and records.
The SIT will scrutinise documents linked to the temple trust, records of money collected through donation boxes, banking transactions, and the roles of employees involved in the management of donations.
According to allegations, discrepancies were found between the amount collected from donation boxes and the sums deposited into designated bank accounts. Complaints regarding irregularities in the collection, counting and deposit processes for donations triggered the inquiry.
Key aspects the SIT will focus on include determining the total extent of alleged embezzlement, matching donation records with bank entries, establishing whether irregularities involved individuals or trust officials, and examining assets of employees drawing salaries of Rs 18,000-Rs 20,000 who allegedly possess disproportionate wealth.
The probe was launched after allegations surfaced regarding irregularities in handling crores of rupees donated by devotees. Given the religious significance of the Ram Temple, the investigation has drawn attention across Uttar Pradesh and from devotees across the country and abroad.
Meanwhile, Krishna Dev Tiwari (K D Tiwari), a temple sevadar whose name surfaced in the controversy, has denied all allegations. He rejected claims that he purchased land worth Rs 1.5 crore using temple donation funds, stating his sons bought land in December 2023 before he joined temple service in March 2024.
The controversy has triggered political confrontation in Uttar Pradesh. While the Yogi Adityanath government constituted an SIT directed to submit its report within 15 days, opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party and Congress, have raised questions over the allegations.
Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad demanded that the Ram Temple Trust be dissolved to ensure an impartial investigation, stressing the controversy is linked to the faith of millions of devotees and the sanctity of Lord Ram.
The investigation into alleged Rs 7 crore embezzlement from Ram Temple donations enters a crucial phase with the SIT probe, as political battle intensifies over faith and sanctity of devotees’ sacred contributions.
