Unidentified burglars stole a collection box from Lakshmi Ganapati Temple in Vaishnavi Nagar, Suraram, Hyderabad, on Sunday night.
The suspects later broke open the collection box in a nearby forest area at Gajularamaram and escaped with the cash. According to police, burglars broke open temple locks and escaped with the hundi and one gram of gold jewellery belonging to the temple.
Police have registered a case and started an investigation based on a complaint from temple authorities. The theft occurred in Suraram, Quthbullapur, Medchal-Malkajgiri district.
It was identified that two miscreants were involved in the temple theft. This incident follows a pattern of temple burglaries across India, where thieves target donation boxes containing devotees’ offerings.
The burglary has shocked the local Hindu community, as the collection box contains devotees’ sacred offerings meant for temple maintenance and religious activities.
This theft desecrates the sacred trust of devotees who offered their donations to Lord Ganapati.
