Prayers are being offered to Goddess Saraswati at the Bhojshala complex in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, where the murti was consecrated on May 17 following the historic Madhya Pradesh High Court verdict declaring the site a temple.
Bhojshala Mukti Yagna Convener Gopal Sharma paid tribute to all who sacrificed their lives for this sacred cause. “Today, we pay tribute to all those who have sacrificed their lives for the sake of this Bhojshala. Their portraits will be displayed outside, where floral tributes will be offered,” he stated.
The Indore Bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court declared on Friday that the disputed Bhojshala-Kamal Maula complex is fundamentally a temple dedicated to Goddess Vagdevi Saraswati from the Bhoj-Parmar dynasty era. The court quashed ASI’s 2003 order that permitted Muslims to offer Friday namaz while restricting Hindus to Tuesday puja.
Historical records, archaeological material, and architectural references established the site as an 11th-century Sanskrit learning centre under Raja Bhoj. The 242-page judgment granted Hindus unrestricted right to perform religious rituals 365 days a year while ASI maintains site preservation.
Devotees entered the complex on Saturday to offer prayers and perform hawan in the hawan kund, marking the first unrestricted worship at this sacred site in decades. Security remains tightened in Dhar district as the community celebrates this vindication of Sanatana Dharma.
The court also suggested the Government of India consider bringing back the murti of Goddess Vagdevi from the British Museum in London, where it currently resides.
Goddess Saraswati’s legacy at Bhojshala has been restored through truth, legal justice, and the sacrifices of devotees.
