Thousands of devotees gather in grand devotion at Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam for the sacred Chithirai Ther Festival. The massive wooden chariot (Thiruther), richly adorned with flowers and silk, carried the murti of Lord Namperumal through the four temple streets amid thunderous chants of “Govinda, Govinda”!
On May 14, 2026, at around 5:55 am, the procession began as devotees from Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Karur, and Pudukkottai districts eagerly pulled the chariot rope. MLA M Ramesh flagged off the event by joining the pull, honoring this 11-day Brahmotsavam known as Viruppan Thirunal.
Namperumal, decorated with Muthupandiyan Kondai and a parrot garland from Srivilliputhur Andal Temple, displayed divine grace at Mesha Lagnam. This revered Divya Desam, called Bhoologa Vaikuntham, draws masses seeking forgiveness and moksha through this shared act of humility.
Chithirai Ther symbolizes unity in Sanatana Dharma, washing sins with collective devotion.
