Members of the Bangladeshi Hindu community in London have held a vibrant celebration of the Bangla New Year, hosting a cultural event that brought together community leaders, public representatives, and guests from across the political spectrum.
The programme in Khammam highlighted the rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh through traditional music, dance, and folk performances, offering a space where Hindu Bengali identity and minority pride were openly celebrated.
Telangana BJP spokesperson and senior party leader Namburi Ramalingeswara Rao, whose native constituency is Sathupalli in Khammam district, was present as a guest of honour. In his address, he spoke of the growing distress among Bangladeshi Hindus, condemning recent reported attacks on Hindu families and places of worship in Bangladesh.
He urged the diaspora to remain united and vocal in demanding safety, rights, and legal protection for Hindu minorities in their homeland, while also respecting India’s secular democracy and its own Hindu minority fabric.
The event was attended by local Members of Parliament, the Mayor, and council members, underscoring its inclusive, cross‑community character. Speakers consistently stressed the need for communal harmony, interfaith solidarity, and mutual respect, positioning the Bangla New Year as both a moment of festivity and a platform to advocate for peace and dignity for all minority and marginalised communities, including Hindus in Bangladesh and in the UK.
The gathering closed with a joint call for unity, resilience, and the preservation of cultural traditions in the face of rising identity‑based violence and political polarisation in the subcontinent.
