A sacred riverbank shrine awakens with divine splendour. Goddess Saraswati’s abode in Telangana receives monumental upgrades.

Telangana government allocates ₹225 crores for the reconstruction of the Basara Gnana Saraswati Temple. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy performs Bhoomi Puja on Monday for Rajagopuram, the sacred pond, Northern Gateway, and the meditation halls. All works follow strict traditional rituals on Godavari’s banks, revered as Dakshina Ganga.

Built-up area expands from 20,000 to 62,000 square feet using only stone. Nine-storey Raja Gopuram rises on north, seven-storey towers on the other sides. Sanctum Sanctorum grows to 5,000 square feet; a 33-foot Mada Veedhulu encircles the temple. Facilities include 70,000 square feet of queue complexes for 6,000 devotees, 20,000 square feet of kitchen and dining, flower gardens, a health centre, solar parking, and an underpass.

Sage Veda Vyasa established the temple post-Kurukshetra War, personally crafting Trimata murtis – Gnana Saraswati, Mahalakshmi, Mahakali – from Godavari sand. Basara draws lakhs for Aksharabhyasam, especially on Vasant Panchami, initiating children into learning under Sanatana Dharma’s wisdom. Sringeri Peethadhipatis approved the master plan preserving Vedic sanctity.

Upgrades ease hardships for surging devotees, enhancing Aksharabhyasam and festivals such as the Godavari Pushkaralu starting in June 2027. They honour Telangana’s Hindu heritage amid growing pilgrimage.
