The ten day Margazhi festival at Sthanumalayan Swamy temple in Suchindram commenced with a traditional flag hoisting ceremony on Thursday, marking the start of one of the temple’s most important annual celebrations. The ceremonial kodi pattam was brought in procession and handed over to temple authorities on Wednesday, followed by rituals and pujas conducted according to agamic traditions under the leadership of Vattapalli mutt Sthanikar Sivaprasad on Thursday morning.
Therku Mann mutt Sthanikar Dileep Nambuthiri performed the flag hoisting ceremony in the presence of Kanniyakumari MP Vijay Vasanth, MLA Thalavai Sundaram, temple authorities, and officials from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. The festival holds deep spiritual significance in the Margazhi month, considered highly auspicious in Tamil devotional tradition.
Major events lined up include Makkalmaar Sandhippu on December 27, Panchamurthi darshan on December 29, the grand car festival on January 2, and Sapthavarnam and Arudhra darshan on January 3. For devotees of Sthanumalayan Swamy, whose kshetra uniquely enshrines Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma in one sanctum, the Margazhi festival is a time of heightened bhakti, sacred rituals, and collective celebration of Sanatana Dharma’s living traditions.
