Another Hindu man has been beaten to death in Bangladesh, just days after the brutal lynching and burning of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh. Local media reported that 29-year-old Amrit Mondal, also known as Samrat, was killed in Rajbari’s Pangsha sub-district, approximately three and a half hours from Dhaka, around 11 pm on Thursday.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions over minority safety in Bangladesh, with Hindu advocacy groups and international observers raising serious concerns about the repeated targeting of Hindus since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina in August. The pattern of violence, including lynchings, mob attacks, temple desecrations, and forced conversions, continues despite assurances from the interim administration led by Muhammad Yunus.
The killing also coincides with the return of Tarique Rahman, aspiring prime minister and senior BNP leader, who arrived in Bangladesh on Thursday after 17 years in self-imposed exile, promising to deliver safety and justice if his party wins the upcoming elections. Whether such promises will translate into tangible protection for minorities remains to be seen, given the consistent failure to prevent or swiftly prosecute violence against Hindus.
