Temple tourism injects Rs 1.25 trillion into UP economy. Ayodhya witnesses 238 million pilgrims in six months, transforming regional prosperity.

Ayodhya’s economy is experiencing explosive growth following the Ram Mandir consecration, with temple tourism contributing Rs 1.25 trillion to Uttar Pradesh’s economy. Tourist arrivals surged from 57.6 million in 2023 to 164.4 million in 2024, with a record-breaking 238.2 million pilgrims visiting in just the first six months of 2025. This represents a 40-50 percent increase post-consecration. Prime Minister Modi’s November 25 flag hoisting ceremony at the temple spire is expected to attract massive crowds, further accelerating economic momentum.

The economic impact spans multiple sectors. Local artisans have increased by 25 percent, with daily earnings rising from Rs 200 to Rs 1,500 and multiplying manifold on special occasions. During Deepotsav, over 90 percent hotel occupancy generated Rs 50 million benefiting restaurants, prasad shops, photographers, sculptors, potters, florists, and boatmen. Global hotel chains including Marriott, Taj, and Vivanta have established presence. Transport, handicrafts, and hospitality sectors are booming. Ayodhya’s One District One Product initiative, featuring jaggery and traditional sweets, is reaching international markets through foreign tourists.

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust alone generated Rs 400 crore in taxes over five years. Infrastructure investments worth Rs 85,000 crore are planned to handle 300,000 daily visitors. The trust directly employs over 1,000 people with formal benefits. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s development model has made Ayodhya a symbol of how faith and economic prosperity harmoniously coexist.
