Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Tuesday, led by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, demanding justice for the lynching of 25-year-old Hindu factory worker Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh on December 18. Demonstrators broke through barricades, chanted “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, “Yunus Sarkar Hosh Me Aao”, and “Hindu Hatya Band Karo”, while holding placards like “Hindu rakt ki ek ek boond ka hisaab chahiye” and burning effigies of Bangladesh interim chief Muhammad Yunus.
Police detained protesters and re-established security layers after clashes, with heavy deployment already in place anticipating the demonstration sparked by Das’s brutal beating, hanging, and burning over alleged blasphemy. At least 12 people have been arrested in Bangladesh for the murder, but the incident has fueled outrage over ongoing violence against Hindus, including temple vandalism, since Sheikh Hasina’s ouster.
Bangladesh summoned India’s High Commissioner, protesting attacks on its diplomatic missions in Delhi and Siliguri, and urged thorough investigations while condemning threats to its personnel. India dismissed the claims, noting the Delhi protest was brief and posed no real threat.
