The historic 524-year-old Tripura Sundari Devi Temple in Udaipur, one of 51 Shakti Peethas, underwent Rs 52-54 crore redevelopment under the PRASHAD scheme, inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on September 22, 2025. Despite the Central Government’s Rs 34.43 crore contribution and state funds up to Rs 17.61 crore, no free wheelchairs exist for elderly and divyangjan devotees struggling with temple stairs.

Daily footfall surged from 3,000-3,500 to 5,000-7,000 pilgrims, with annual visitors crossing 12 lakh, yet promised lift facilities remain absent post-renovation. The project delivered landscaping, entrance plaza, visitor centre, food court, Bhog Ghar, toilets, VIP lounge, and meditation hall, boosting Matabari Peda’s GI-tagged economy while planning Rs 97.7 crore 51 Shakti Peethas Park.

Senior citizens face serious inconvenience climbing stairs without assistance, questioning how modernization overlooked fundamental accessibility in a scheme aimed at pilgrim convenience. Gomati District Administration banned tobacco, intoxicants except tea, and single-use plastics, earning praise for eco-friendly sanctity while accessibility gaps persist.

Rs 52 crore transformed aesthetics and crowd management, yet excluded ramps, elevators, and wheelchairs essential for Mata’s aged and challenged devotees seeking Her darshan.

Devotees and senior citizens continue demanding immediate installation of lifts and free wheelchairs at Tripura Sundari Temple to ensure the Rs 52 crore renovation fulfills its promise of inclusive access for all pilgrims, regardless of age or physical ability.
