Major temples in Madhya Pradesh are facing fresh questions over donation transparency, with scrutiny now focused on Mahakal, Omkareshwar, and Baglamukhi.
At Omkareshwar Temple, the trust has for the first time disclosed the amount collected from donation boxes. It said ₹24.41 lakh was received in one week. But details of income from online donations, prasad sales, quick darshan, and other sources are still not being made public. That silence has deepened public concern, especially as devotees continue to demand full transparency in temple finances.
Mahakal Temple in Ujjain has a strong cash-handling system with CCTV coverage, bank supervision, and strict counting procedures. Still, public records of gold and silver donations remain unavailable. Temple officials say the jewellery is weighed by authorised jewellers and kept in a sealed strong room for security reasons. Even so, questions are now being raised because the weight and market value of these offerings are not being disclosed.
The controversy has grown because people want to know where every offering goes and how it is recorded. When temples manage large sums in cash and precious metals, trust depends on visible accountability. Without clear public records, suspicion naturally increases.
At Maa Baglamukhi Temple in Agar Malwa, the issue has become more serious. A collector-led inquiry has found allegations that a fake or parallel committee was collecting donations and offerings outside the official system. The investigation is now examining bank accounts, lockers, and temple records to determine whether cash, gold, and silver were handled improperly.
Madhya Pradesh’s temple donation systems are now under close watch, and the pressure for transparency is only getting stronger.
