The holy relics of Lord Buddha’s chief disciples, Arhant Sariputra and Arhant Maudgalyayana, returned to New Delhi from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena personally carried the holy relics back to India after the completion of a 10-day exposition held during the auspicious Vesak celebrations.
Saxena has been nominated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lead the delegation for the return of the holy relics to India.
The Indian delegation led by the Hon’ble Lt Governor of Ladakh, Mr Vinai Saxena, arrived at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on June 8, 2026, by a Special Indian Force Flight to take back to India the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha’s two Chief Disciples.
He attended the concluding ceremony on June 10 in Ulaanbaatar, after which the relics were transported by special aircraft to New Delhi.
This marks the conclusion of the sacred relics’ journey following their 10-day exposition in Mongolia during Vesak celebrations, highlighting cultural ties between India and Mongolia.
