Vijayawada’s Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam on Indrakeeladri Hill has recorded a substantial hundi income of ₹2.83 crore in its latest enumeration, reflecting strong devotion and growing global interest in the Kanaka Durga shrine. The rising summer vacation footfall and a wave of vow-fulfilment offerings are credited for the surge in collections.
The total hundi collection stood at ₹2,83,17,242, comprising ₹2,70,22,242 in currency notes and ₹12,95,000 in coins, giving an average daily income of about ₹16.65 lakh during the counting period.
Beyond cash, devotees offered 329 grams of gold and 3.8 kilograms of silver in ornaments and articles to the presiding deity, adding a significant metal‑value component to the temple’s receipts.
The temple’s growing international profile is evident from the foreign‑currency receipts, which include 707 US dollars, 1,200 Nigerian naira, 6,500 Indonesian rupiah, 1,000 Japanese yen, 231 Saudi riyals, and 60 UAE dirhams. Temple officials note that much of this comes from Non‑Resident Indians and devotees from abroad who visit during vacations and festivals to fulfil promises made to Goddess Kanaka Durga.
The counting was carried out under tight security and CCTV surveillance at the Maha Mandapam, and the Devasthanam has stated that the entire income will be used for temple development and for improving pilgrim‑care facilities atop Indrakeeladri.
