Home Minister Amit Shah has offered salutations to Poet Laureate Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on his death anniversary. In a social media post, Mr Shah said that Tagore gave voice to the soul of India and infused new consciousness into the freedom movement through his writings.
The Minister added that Tagore’s immortal creation ‘Jana Gana Mana’ is a symbol of the nation’s unified consciousness and self-pride. Further, Mr Shah noted that the Poet Laureate elevated the glory of Indian culture, philosophy, and education onto the global stage by establishing Visva-Bharati University.
The Home Minister underlined that Tagore’s literature remains an inexhaustible source of inspiration for millions of countrymen even today. “During the freedom struggle, his timeless creations paved a new path by infusing the nation with self-esteem, cultural consciousness and the spirit of independence. By establishing Visva-Bharati University, he strengthened education based on the Indian knowledge tradition and gave the country the pride of the national anthem. Gurudev’s thoughts will continue to inspire nation-building for ages,” Mr Shah said.
Rabindranath Tagore, who was born on May 7, 1861, and passed away on August 7, 1941, was the first non-European Nobel Prize laureate in Literature, recognized for his collection ‘Gitanjali’.
