The Tamil Nadu government’s HR&CE department has constituted a special committee to conduct a comprehensive survey of all properties belonging to the Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple in Palani.
The move comes after a major land fraud came to light. A 1.4-acre parcel of temple land, valued at around Rs 100 crore, was allegedly illegally registered in the names of private individuals in violation of court orders. The case has triggered outrage among devotees and led to multiple investigations, suspensions, and a Madras High Court order nullifying the registration.
The panel, headed by the Additional Commissioner of the HR&CE department, Tiruchy zone, includes officials from the revenue and survey departments. It has been tasked with verifying all temple properties, both recorded and unrecorded, and examining whether there have been illegal encroachments, unauthorised transfers, or other irregularities. The committee has been directed to submit its report at the earliest so that legal action can be initiated wherever necessary.
The government has also decided to form similar committees for the remaining temples of the Arupadai Veedu, the six abodes of Lord Murugan, to ensure complete protection of temple assets.
Meanwhile, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has announced a protest in Palani on July 25, demanding a CBI probe and alleging that the government is trying to protect those involved.
