A Rs 7,597 crore highway upgrade project in Telangana is set to boost temple tourism by improving road access to some of the state’s most visited pilgrimage and heritage sites.
The Union Cabinet has approved the four-laning of key stretches of National Highways 63 and 563, covering 190.76 km. The upgraded corridors will connect major temples such as Vemulawada Rajarajeshwara Swamy, Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy, Dharmapuri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, and Kaleshwaram Mukteswara Swamy, as well as the historic Nagunur Fort.
Tourism officials say the improved connectivity will make it easier for pilgrims to visit multiple destinations in a single trip, especially during festival seasons. Shorter travel times and safer roads are expected to attract more visitors and benefit local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, transport operators, guides, and artisans.
The Armoor-Jagtial-Mancherial stretch of NH-63 will be widened under the Hybrid Annuity Model, while the Jagtial-Karimnagar section of NH-563 will be developed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (Toll) model.
