Madmaheshwar Temple closes for winter season. Sacred murti journeys to Ukhimath amid Vedic rituals and devotional procession.
The portals of Madmaheshwar Temple, the Second Kedar in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, closed for winter. Over 350 devotees witnessed the ceremony alongside Badarinath Kedarnath Temple Committee officials, forest department representatives, and district administration. The temple had been adorned with flowers since the previous day in preparation. The closing ritual began at Brahma Muhurta when devotees offered final darshan, with the sealing of the sanctum sanctorum starting at 7 AM.
The presiding priest placed the self-manifest Shivling into samadhi state in the presence of BKTC CEO Vijay Prasad Thapliyal and Panch Gondari right holders. At precisely 8 AM, gates closed amid resonant chants of Jai Ghosh. The chal vigrah in its palanquin circumambulated the temple before departing for Gondar. Despite challenging terrain, over 22,000 pilgrims visited this year. The doli will journey through Rakeshwari Temple at Ransi and Giria, reaching its winter abode at Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath on November 21. A three-day Madmaheshwar Mela will celebrate the deity’s arrival from November 20-22.
