Tragedy struck in Maharashtra’s Sangli district, where six devotees lost their lives during a religious ceremony for Goddess Murgubai. Heavy rain and strong winds triggered a wall collapse, injuring 13 others in Motwadi village.
The incident unfolded around 5 pm Tuesday. A large gathering honored the goddess amid devotion. Sudden storms forced worshippers to seek shelter under a nearby construction site’s stone wall. Fierce winds ripped off a metal sheet roof, slamming into the wall and causing it to crumble on the crowd.
Jat Police confirmed six died on the spot. The injured received prompt care at Jat Rural Hospital and are now out of danger. Sangli SP Tushar Doshi and Collector Mainak Ghosh assured swift action, with compensation proposals sent for the families, including four Maharashtrians.
