A 15-year-old boy drowned after entering the pond of the Sri Lakshmi Venkataramana Temple in Tenkapete, Udupi, to swim on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Aditya Nayak, a resident of Bellampalli in Kukkikatte. Aditya reportedly visited the temple with a relative for a bhajan programme being held there. During the programme, devotees entered the pond and swam. Aditya also entered the water while his relative, who did not know how to swim, stayed on the bank.

While swimming in the middle of the pond, Aditya suddenly drowned and went missing. Temple authorities immediately informed local rescue expert Eshwar Malpe, who reached the spot and began a search operation. After nearly an hour of searching, Aditya was pulled out of the pond in critical condition.

He was rushed to a private hospital in Udupi, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. The body was subsequently shifted to the district hospital for further procedures. Udupi City Police visited the spot and registered a case.
