Thousands of devotees thronged the revered Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain on the second Monday of the holy month of Sawan, seeking blessings of Lord Mahakal. The temple witnessed a massive influx of devotees from across the country, with elaborate arrangements put in place by the district administration and temple authorities to manage the rush and ensure smooth darshan.
Among those who offered prayers at the temple was Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who attended the spiritually significant Bhasma Aarti at the Mahakaleshwar Temple in the early hours. BJP’s Kailash Vijayvargiya also visited the temple to offer prayers on this auspicious occasion.
Devotees gathered in large numbers to witness the special prayers and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. Despite heavy rainfall in the region, devotees’ enthusiasm remained undiminished, with many queuing from late at night. The temple gates were opened at 2:30 am for the Bhasma Aarti, and darshan continued until 10 pm for the Shayan Aarti.
On the first Monday of Sawan, over 6 lakh devotees had offered prayers at the Mahakal Temple. The administration estimates that approximately two crore devotees may reach Ujjain during the Shravan-Bhadrapada months. To facilitate easy darshan, the holidays of all temple employees have been cancelled for one month.
