Over one lakh devotees witnessed the Rathotsavam, the temple car festival of Shree Devarajaswamy Perumal Temple in Kancheepuram, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. The Lord was accompanied by his consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi. The festival was held as part of the Vaikasi Brahmotsavam.
Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments S. Ramesh took part in pulling the car, along with Ministers K. Thennarasu and R.V. Ranjithkumar, and Kancheepuram District Collector D. Sneha.
Pontiff of Sankara Mutt, Shankara Vijayendra Saraswati Shankaracharya Swamigal, had the darshan of the Rathotsavam on the Raja Veethi.
The grand Therottam (chariot festival) was held on Day 7 of the Vaikasi Brahmotsavam, with the Swami Ezhuntharulal in Thiru Ther taking place early morning at 6:00 AM, followed by Thiruther Vadam Pidithal, and the deity being taken back from Thiru Ther at 6:00 PM.
The massive wooden chariot of Shree Varadaraja Perumal Temple, one of the grandest spectacles in Kanchipuram, drew thousands of devotees who pulled the chariot with devotional fervour, chanting “Govinda! Govinda!”.
The Rathotsavam represents Lord Vishnu’s divine journey, blessing his devotees, and reinforcing the sacred bond between the deity and worshippers.
