A Rs 4 crore cheque donated to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust to support infrastructure for the staff of the Ayodhya Ram temple has bounced after the bank found only Rs 3 in the account.
The cheque was reportedly issued by a woman devotee from Chennai. When the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust presented the cheque to the bank, it was returned due to insufficient funds.
The bank is reportedly preparing to issue a notice to the woman seeking an explanation for issuing a cheque of such a large amount despite there being insufficient funds in the account.
According to reports, the woman had also separately donated Rs 10,000 in cash to the temple. However, she wanted the Trust to provide a written assurance that the Rs 4 crore donation would be used exclusively for facilities for temple staff.
The Trust reportedly declined to provide such a written assurance. It is now holding discussions with the woman in an attempt to resolve the issue.
During the 45-day Nidhi Samarpan Abhiyan conducted in 2020, around Rs 3,500 crore was collected. At the time, cheques worth around Rs 100 crore reportedly bounced due to technical reasons. Most of the amount was subsequently recovered. However, around Rs 22 crore is still reportedly pending recovery.
The Ram temple receives around Rs 3 crore to Rs 4 crore in donations every month through cash, online transfers and cheques.
